Father Armand J. Jacques, MM

Armand J. Jacques was born in Tecumseh, Ontario on November 26, 1898 After attending grammar school in Windsor, he went to Assumption College, Sandwich, Ontario. His college years were interrupted by service in the Canadian Artillery during the first World war, but after being discharged he resumed his studies. He went to the Diocesan seminary in Ontario for one year and entered Maryknoll in September of 1924.

He was ordained on June 19, 1927 and then began his almost forty years of very successful mission work in Fushun. In 1948 he was assigned to Kweilin where he labored until evicted by the Communists to Hong Kong in 1950.

The following year he was assigned to Formosa where he continued to fulfill his missionary activities until he returned to the United States in April of 1967 on account of his health. Father Jacques died in a hospital in Windsor on June 15, 1967.

A concelebrated Funeral Mass took place in Saint Alphonsus Church, Windsor on June 17 and another at Maryknoll on the same day. Father’s body was interred at Maryknoll on the 19th.
