Father Patrick M. Dunne, MM

Father Martin Dunne died on Christmas morning. On this day of our Saviors birth, Father Marty passed on to eternal life at nine in the morning at Phelps Memorial Hospital.

Father Marty was born in New York on February 26, 1908, the son of Patrick M. Dunne and Annie A. White. He was a graduate of St. Stephen’s Parochial School. After studying for two years at Cathedral College, he
entered the Venard, September 1928.

Father was ordained at Maryknoll on June 14, 1938 and worked through four years at Peng Yang in Korea. With the war, he was repatriated on the Gripsholm and shortly after was assigned to Maryknoll’s new mission in Temuco, Chile. For thirty-one years of work in Chile, Father Marty was revered as a priestly, generous, selfless missioner.

In 1974 Father was recalled to the Center for reasons of health which lead to his assignment to the Special Society Unit in 1977.

The wake was held at 7:30 p. in., December 26. The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 11:00 a. m. on December 27. Father Ray Hill was the Principal Celebrant. Father Tom McDermott was the homilist.
