Sister Mary Grace Koch, MM

Sister Mary Grace died on June 28, 1956 at the age of seventy-four. She was a Maryknoll Sister for thirty-five years.

Caroline Koch was born on January 6, 1882 in Laupheim, Germany to George and Caroline Koch. She was one of fifteen children including Maryknoll Sister M. Perpetua. Caroline attended St. Peter’s Parochial School in Philadelphia. She entered Maryknoll on February 14, 1921 and at Reception received the name Mary Grace. She made her first vow on April 9, 1923 and her Final Profession on the same date in 1926, both at the Motherhouse. After her profession, Sister worked as a cook in the Washington D.C. house from 1926-1931 and then transferred her culinary talents to Punahou, Hawaii. After more than a decade serving in Hawaii, illness forced Sister Mary Grace to return home in 1943. She would spend her remaining years in New York.

Sister was laid to rest in the Sisters’ Cemetery at the Motherhouse on June 30.
