Father Leo W. Hewitt, MM

Leo W. Hewitt was born on August 8, 1900, in Cumberland, Rd. Here he received his early education. After high school he worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad until he entered the Venard in 1921.

He was ordained on January 26, 1930 and assigned to the Orient. He worked in Fushun, Manchuria for sixteen years and then in 1946 was assigned to the faculty at the Venard where he held many posts including that of Vice-Rector until 1953.

In 1957 he was named assistant to Fr. Charles McCarthy in the Promotion Department and in 1962 was appointed Controller of the Public Relations Department. In 1966 Father Hewitt retired and took up residence at Mountain View.

On November 27 Father fell ill, and Fr. Lloyd Glass gave him the Last Rites. Father Hewitt had been under the doctor’s care for a long while due to previous health issues.

Father Leo was buried at Mountain View after the funeral Mass.
