Sister Mary Ladislaus Metzner, MM

Born: September 10, 1881
Entered: February 2, 1921
Died: November 16, 1961

Sister Mary Ladislaus Metzner passed away very quietly at 7:20, Thursday evening, November 16.

Sister Mary Ladislaus, Mary Metzner, was born in Merk, Hungary, on September 10, 1881. Sister came to the United States in 1907, and lived in New York, working at household tasks until she entered Maryknoll on February 2, 1921. Shortly after her first profession, in 1923, Sister Mary Ladislaus was assigned to the Venard. After three years, in 1926, Sister went to Bethany, and two years later, to the Motherhouse. In 1935 Sister was assigned to the West Coast, to Monrovia first, and in 1936 to Mountain View where she remained for the next six years, returning to the Motherhouse in 1942. Sister Mary Ladislaus went to Crichton when the house opened in 1948, as a member of the house staff.

Sister’s spirituality was direct and single hearted. She loved God and all her fellow men – and all God’s creatures – the last mentioned sometimes to the discomfort of those not endowed with the same kindly feelings towards the furry and feathered wild life of the woods. Sister Mary Ladislaus loved all things that God made.

Sister Mary Ladislaus will be buried from Bethany on Monday, November 20.
