Father Hubert M. Pospichal, MM

Hubert M. Pospichal was born in Kimball, South Dakota on September 6, 1887. He attended Dubuque High School in Dubuque, Iowa and then entered college. His college years were interrupted by service in the U.S. Army during World War I. He came out with the rank of Sergeant and returned to finish his last year at Dubuque College. He entered Maryknoll September 1, 1920.

He was ordained on May 31, 1925 and left for his first mission assignment to Korea in August of that year. He continued to fulfill his missionary activities until he was interned by the Japanese and then repatriated to the United States on the M.S. Gripsholm in 1942.

He was assigned to the Seattle house and in 1947 went to Hawaii where he remained until his return to Korea in 1956. He worked at the Maryknoll leprosarium near Seoul until 1962 when he returned again to the States and was assigned to Glen Ellyn.

Father Pospichal died on March 27, 1968 at St. Camillus Hospital in Wauwautosa, Wisc. after a long illness. A concelebrated funeral Mass was held at Glen Ellyn and burial was at Glen Ellyn. At Maryknoll, N.Y. a Mass was celebrated and a classmate, Fr. James Keller, preached the homily.
