Sister Mary Concepta Benicker, MM
Born: January 20, 1903
Entered: September 24, 1923
Died: July 12, 1950
Quietly and peacefully, our Sister Concepta died Wednesday night at 11:25, July 12, 1950.
Sister’s name was Elizabeth H. Benicker, born January 20, 1903. She came from Our Lady of Sorrows parish in Philadelphia to enter September 1923 and was professed in April 1926.
She had several years in the sewing room with Sr. Ambrose. For three years, 1927-1930, she was Postulant Mistress. In 1930 she went to Korea.
She was in Gishu for five years and Yeng You for seven. Those years summed up her time in mission. Repatriated in 1942, she was in charge of the sewing room here until 1945, when she went to Bethany. Her health began to steadily decline.
Fr. Chisholm, her pastor in Korea, spoke at the funeral Mass on Saturday morning. He mentioned her special gift of working with boys, and dwelt upon her clear understanding, from the very beginning, of the meaning of religious life.
Sister said she was offering her sufferings for the people of Korea. May she rest in peace!
