Sister Mary Jacqueline (Marguerite Rosalie Kolk) was born in Alton, Illinois on August 21, 1903. She is survived by one sister and one brother.
Before entering Maryknoll, Sister Mary Jacqueline had completed her nurses training at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois and did private duty and floor nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Alton, Illinois. Sister entered Maryknoll on July 2, 1931 and was professed January 6, 1934.
Shortly after Profession Sister was assigned to Los Angeles where she helped out at the Japanese Home until her assignment to St. Paul’s Hospital in Manila in 1935. Sister remained at St. Paul’s until 1940 when she was transferred to Shingishu. After the outbreak of the war in 1941, she went to our hospital in Monrovia remaining until 1950 when she was assigned to the Government Hospital in Kandy, Ceylon as Nursing and T.B. Supervisor. She remained in Kandy until the Sisters were asked to leave in 1959, when she returned to Monrovia. Sister Jacqueline was a very devoted nurse and was dearly loved by her patients.
In January of 1964, Sister herself was taken ill. She was able for the most part to carry on nursing duties at Monrovia until the hospital began to phase out early in 1968. During the summer months Sister became incapacitated and returned to Bethany.
A requiem Mass will be offered at the Motherhouse on December 31.
