Celebrated on the second Monday in October, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a holiday in the United States that honors and celebrates the rich cultures and histories of Native Americans.

The Maryknoll Mission Archives is profoundly grateful to every single person that has donated, continues to donate, and is planning to donate to our collections. Our Archives relies on the generous support of individuals who, like us, are interested in sharing Maryknoll’s enduring legacy around the world.

The Grotto was built to honor Our Lady of Lourdes, and as a memorial to Bp. James A. Walsh, the Spiritual Father of the Maryknoll Sisters. The site is believed to be located where Fr. Thomas Price would pray privately to Mary in the woods surrounding Maryknoll.

Fr. Massoth’s life was tragically cut short, making him the first ordained Maryknoll priest to die. Reflecting on his story, I was inspired by his humility and perseverance. His life serves as testament that everyone has the power to make the world a better place.
