Recently, I came across some material from the Maryknoll Sisters’ Candy Department. In the 1930s and 1940s, the Novice Sisters at the Maryknoll Motherhouse made homemade candy, cakes, and other sweets to help support the missions. The material includes menus for different special occasions. These include Christmas, birthdays, and Easter. For this holiday, the Novices designed a menu full of tempting treats. A supporter could buy caramels, cookes, and even chocolate eggs!. To top it off, an adorable cast of illustrated characters create an Easter parade to highlight the sweets. After reading this menu, I was charmed by its story and inspired to visit my local bakery. In the spirit of the Maryknoll Sisters, we wish you a sweet and happy Easter!
