This Thanksgiving the Maryknoll Mission Archives offers this excerpt from Mother Mary Joseph’s Discourse “Thanksgiving – The Lord’s Prayer,” dated November 25, 1925

“Sisters, we should bear in mind that it is not always enough for us in thanking God just to say it in words, we must give God something more for the things He has given to us. In religion we haven’t materials gifts to offer God to express our gratitude, but on a day like Thanksgiving, we should offer to God some special prayers of thanksgiving, for the blessings He has bestowed upon us during the year… Make some sacrifice during the day, or some other time. I don’t ask you to give up your turkey dinner, because it is part of Thanksgiving, but to make some little effort to make some thanksgiving to God for the things He has done for you.”
