This series celebrates the lives of Maryknoll missioners whose biographies simply do not do them justice. Today, we celebrate the life of Fr. Thomas R. Wellinghoff during the Jubilee of the Poor. Let Fr. Wellinghoff’s story serve as a reminder to care for the most vulnerable members of our communities, and reinvigorate our ambitions for a more just world for all.

As part of the Jubilee of the World of Education, happening October 31st through November 2nd, 2025, Archives is highlighting a selection of international schools established by the Maryknoll Sisters.

When the first group of Maryknoll Sisters came to Hong Kong in November 1921, their goal was to serve the people and their unique needs to the best of their abilities. Within a few short years, they were establishing the Maryknoll Convent School, one of the oldest and longest running schools in Maryknoll’s history.

Archives is home to the Maryknoll Lay Missioners’ historic collections, and we enjoy showcasing former lay missioners and their unique missions in our blog. The organization’s Golden Jubilee presented an excellent opportunity to celebrate the Lay Missioners’ rich history with its members and supporters.
